START A CLUB
General Information and Guidelines:


Members should be limited to 24 boys and girls in grades 6th through 9th.

Meetings should be held in the evening for 90 minutes at a convenient location.

One or more adult volunteers is needed to monitor the meetings.

Membership fee should cover the cost of the room rental and supplies.

A club can start any time of year but meetings must be held twice a month from September through May.

Optional field trips can be scheduled throughout the year including the summer months.

Meetings should include a medical related topic discussed in detail followed with a guest speaker.

Supplies can be provided or members can bring their own notebooks.

No tests, no grades, just a fun informative class! 


5 Easy Steps to Start a Club:


1.  Acquire a location (many schools or healthcare facilities may provide a room free of charge)
2.  Send a press release to your local newspaper or notify the schools in the area about the club.
3.  Have members fill out a membership form and limit the class to 12-24 students based on the room size.
4.  Contact area medical specialists and businesses and set up guest speakers for each meeting date. 
5.  Develop a meeting schedule based on the guest speakers and areas of interest.

* Note:  Many area professionals are open to visiting a group of teens so passionate about learning more in their field of study.  They love   to talk about what they do.  Also, many hospitals and doctors offices have free samples and information you can use as handouts - just ask!

There are numerous resources on the internet for educational materials, hands on activities, videos and other supplies that can be used during classtime.
